A Tribute To Charlene
Our dear quilter friend, Charlene passed away on January 1st. As far as we know, she only had one unfinished project, so I quilted it and will give it to her family.
The fabrics are from the late 80s or early 90s, so it was a challenge to find something in my stash to use for the binding. The only thing I had were some small pieces and fat quarters that would go with the pink in the quilt. I ended up making a pieced binding with the different odds and ends.
Charlene had marked with pencil a design for hand quilting on the large plain squares. I tried to follow the design with my longarm machine but was only able to do the centre flower, I couldn't manage the cable pattern that was around it.
The quilt top came with a sheet to use for backing. I washed the quilt when it was finished but a couple of small stains didn't come out on the back. I embroidered flowers over the stains. Thankfully, the pencil marks on the front of the quilt did come out in the wash.
Normally, I wouldn't post anybody's picture on here without asking permission first, but I'm breaking my own rules today. I would like to honour Charlene, my friend since 1987.

Blue Sky Nine Patch By Linda H.
This is what Linda said about her quilt: "This is a nine patch quilt I made. On the back is fabric from a curtain and valence that Briony put on a fabric donation pile. She was pleased to see it used in a donation quilt."
What a great source for material for quilts- curtains!

First Finish Of 2023
The quilt pattern is "Beads", by Donna Jordan. There is another similar pattern called "Chandelier" that many people having been making lately.
I worked as a cook all my life so I used food themed fabrics in the quilt. I'll be keeping this one. The border fabric was given to me by Linda H.
None of the colours of quilting thread in my hoard were suitable for the quilting. It doesn't matter how many cones there are, there never seems to be the right one. I placed an order for some Isacord thread. I was not disappointed! That thread is easy to work with and it comes in so many beautiful colours.
This is quilted in a light peach which doesn't show up too boldly against the white fabric.
I need a new quilt like I need a new hole in my head. Oh well. I don't want to quit sewing just because the stacks of quilts are getting higher and higher. :)

Rainbow Baby Quilt By Linda H.
I received some photos from Linda and Richard today.
This is what Linda said:
"Here is a small quilt. It was called Rainbow Baby by Cynthia Brunz from Quilty magazine. I made the blocks smaller and added a row." This one will be donated to a local women's shelter.

Last Finish Of 2022
I finished this quilt before Christmas but didn't get a chance to take photos at the time.
The pattern: "Color Study, Inspired by a quilt designed by Janine Burke of Blue Underground Studio, made by Kristine Peterson". This was in the Fons and Porter Scrap quilts, Spring 2013 issue. Linda H also made a quilt from this pattern, I posted her quilt November 26, 2019. I will show Linda's as well on this post.
I threw caution to the wind when quilting this one. It's stitched with bright turquoise Glide thread in a crazy triangle pattern. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I don't make quilts for the purpose of matching people's decor, haha! To me, it's more about the process of positioning different shades, tints and hues together in an experimental way. Also, I'm trying to do a different quilting design on every quilt so I don't get stuck in a rut.
The backing is equally bold with a fabric that came from Connecting Threads.
Here is Linda's quilt:
