Friday Finish

I put that last stitches in the binding, now this well-aged UFO is finished. These blocks were made about 10-12 years ago, then put away in a box. In the spring, I excavated them and made a quilt top. Not wanting to make more blocks, I increased the size by adding a wide border. For the backing, I used a piece of gold Thimbleberries fabric. That colour isn't too popular these days, but it works for backing. It was nice to be able to use it up. For the quilting, I stitched in the ditch with Sew Fine white thread. The border is free-motion quilted with Sew Fine thread in a pea soup colour. That type of thread is good to use if you don't want the quilting to stand out too much. Now that this project is done, I can get back to working on the Halloween quilt.

The Beginning Of A Halloween Quilt

Geo's birthday is on October 31. Since he loves Halloween, I thought I would make a quilt for him this year. I ordered online from Sew Sisters, a great place to shop. My order arrived quickly and I was pleased with the fabric. I looked through some quilting books to find an idea and came up with the Anvil block. Each fabric can be featured in the centre of a block. In my 34 years of quilting, this is the first time making a Halloween quilt. There will be fabric left over, so there may be placemats or a table runner in the future.

Tribute To Nancy

A couple of years ago, a local quilter passed away and her family donated her quilting supplies to our guild. There were a few quilt tops, the rest of the stuff was fabric and notions. One of the guild members finished a quilt and it was donated to our town's 2021 New Year's baby. I quilted the other top, using a simple loop design. The batting and backing were there, all I had to do was find something in my stash for the binding. It will go to the first baby of 2022. I think Nancy would have been pleased to know that her projects were finished and given to the babies.

Frankenbatting

I've been back from vacation for over a week, it's time to get into some serious sewing. Today I'm going to pin baste a quilt top. Since it isn't a large project, I'm using leftover batting and making "Frankenbatting" by zigzagging pieces together. Years ago, the first time I did this I didn't have the stitch length set long enough and the seam was wavy. If the stitch length and width is set to the maximum, the end result is flat and smooth. I have a bad habit of making five quilt tops, then quilting one. It doesn't take long to get overwhelmed with UFOs. Will I ever smarten up? Probably not.

Apron

I just finished making this apron. The picture of it on a hanger didn't turn out great because the apron was folding in on itself. I was...
