"Dappled" Is Completed

"Dappled", formerly known as "Quilt Top #18" is now completed. The pattern was designed by Tricia Camp, published in a 2012 McCalls Quilting magazine. I started free motion quilting this one at our guild retreat last March but didn't finish it at that time. I worked on it several months later but still didn't get much done. I finally got myself in gear and had a sewing marathon yesterday and today. The free motion design was inspired by Tracey Russell from Whirls N Swirls Quilting. She has hundreds of You Tube videos. My quilting doesn't look the same as Tracey's, free motion quilting is like handwriting, each person has their own way of doing it. Mine just happens to be a little messy. :)

First Finish Of 2018

The year is speeding by, I FINALLY completed something. This was formerly known as "Quilt Top #13, I'll have to think of a proper name for it now that it's done. I quilted large wavy spirals all over, using Aurifil thread. I haven't dealt with all the loose ends yet, as you can see in one of the photos. Hopefully, this won't be the only thing I finish in 2018.

Day Three Of The March 2018 Quilting Retreat

Today I finished sewing together the mystery table runner, then I made some more blocks for this quilt which I started in December. It was a good weekend, filled with sewing, eating and visiting. :)

Day Two Of The March 2018 Quilting Retreat

Today I got most of the quilting done on the quilt that I posted yesterday. Later on in the day, I switched to a mystery table runner that we were all working on. I had a date with Jack the Ripper (seam ripper) after I sewed rows in the wrong order. After much picking, the rows are ready to be reassembled tomorrow.

Day One Of The March 2018 Quilting Retreat

Today I tried a different type of quilting design. I made huge wiggly spirals with some smaller ones in between. This caused a lot of thread ends, which will have to be dealt with. It went quickly, I've got most of the surface covered already.

Making Reusable Food Wrap

I wanted to make some beeswax coated reusable food wraps, there was a tutorial on apartmenttherapy.com I ordered a couple of pinking blades from Amazon for my rotary cutter on January 9th, but didn't receive them until the other day. They must've been sent on a slow boat across the ocean, they took so long to arrive. Instead of ordering beeswax pellets from Amazon, I bought some blocks of it from Aurora Beeswax Candles in Edmonton, the price was a little better. I just about had to stand on the rotary cutter to get the pinking blade to go through one layer of fabric, the blade wasn't very sharp. After making two wraps, I was ready to call it a day, it was labour intensive, chopping the beeswax blocks into tiny bits with a knife. I tried to use a grater, but the wax was too solid and would have taken a century to grate. I'll try the wraps this week to see if I like using them, then maybe make some more

Blue Chain By Linda H.

I haven't finished anything in 2018 and it's already March, Linda H is leaving me in the dust! Linda made "Blue Chain" to be given away as a donation quilt. At first, the quilt top was way bigger, but Linda decided to take several blocks away and make the quilt a single bed size. The extra blocks will be used to make another quilt in the future. Linda said, "I got the idea for the blue chain quilt from Quilts and More, Summer 2016, The designer was Sherri McConnell. I made my blocks to finish at 6 inches while hers were 5 inches. She called her quilt "Linked"."
