A Sunny Day
It's a beautiful sunny day, what do I do- stay inside and sew! I hardly ever have a day off when I don't have to work at my second job or have chores to do. I'm taking this opportunity to get as much quilted as possible on this UFO from the early 2000s. A few years ago, my sister was visiting and I showed this quilt top to her. We noticed that I made a mistake on the sashing in several places, so Linda used a seam ripper on the sections that were wrong. We looked through my stash and decided on a combination of fabrics that could be used for a border. After Linda left, the pieces of the quilt sat there for a LONG time, then I thought I better sew it back together, correcting the errors. I had to search for the fabrics that were in the quilt and finally found enough to complete the main part of the top. I forgot which fabrics Linda and I chose for the border, I ended up using cream with little brown dots. Note to self- put all the parts and fabrics for a project all in one spot so they are all together when resuming the work! Since I went to all the trouble of getting this quilt top assembled, I thought it would be a good idea to layer, pin baste and start the quilting. I'm stitching in the ditch on all of it then will free motion quilt the edge triangles and border.

Throwback Thursday; Quilt Top #14
I made this quilt top somewhere around the late 90s, it still needs an outer border. The late and great Mary Ellen Hopkins said, "All reds go together", I believe that. I used a specialty ruler that made the pieces on the bias, but don't remember what it was called. It was a quick technique but I don't think I'd do that again, it caused too much waste of fabric. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense to pay a fortune for supplies, then throw a great deal of it in the garbage. Waste not, want not!

Throwback Thursday; Quilt Top #12
This quilt top was made from a block swap that was hosted by the "Quilters' Funtalk" online quilting group. We celebrated our fifth anniversary, 1998-2002 by exchanging these signature blocks. We all used a white background with pastel to make the album blocks. Sadly, some of the people who participated in this swap have passed on, but I'll always remember them. I never knew how I was going to attempt to quilt this one, I don't want to have stitching covering the signatures. Maybe some all-over quilting that skips the centre part of each block? I have a piece of wide white quilt backing and wide width Warm and White quilt batting set aside for this one for when I finally tackle the quilting.

Throwback Thursday; Quilt Top #7
This quilt top is so old that it has "Millenium fabric" on the border. I think when I eventually get it ready to quilt, I'll take off the flying geese around the edge and remove one from each side, then sew it back on, there is a little wave action happening. It would be easier to quilt if the whole thing was flat. When I hung it up on the frame to take the photos, my cat was attacking it and tried to climb up- eek! I was trying to distract him with toys, to no avail. It'll be nice when he gets a little more mature.
