New Potholders for Anna-Marie

I had a request for some potholders recently. My friend, Anna-Marie called and asked if I would make some new ones for her, the ones I made more than 10 years ago were completely worn out. I was happy to honour this request, so I went digging in my stash. Since Anna-Marie loves wildlife, I used moose fabric on the front with a simple block pattern so they would be featured. Bear fabric became the backing. I didn't need to put hanging loops on them because she folds them over her stove handle. Maybe I should make potholders more often and not make her wait 10 or more years for new ones. :)

I delivered the new potholders to Anna-Marie and I took a picture of the old ones. Ha! Ha! Look at these things, they're not even safe anymore, there are holes right through!

I hope the old potholders will find a new home in the garbage can!

My daughter, Lindsay liked some house potholders that Linda H made on one of my blog posts quite awhile ago. I passed the message along, so Linda made a pair for Lindsay's birthday recently. They have different fabrics than the original pair. Lindsay said they are too nice to use! I have a paper pieced chicken potholder that Linda made for me several years ago, it hangs on a hook on the side of the fridge, nobody is allowed to use it. :)

Linda Huntrods made a few sets of these awesome cat coasters, they are not paper pieced! They are from a Janet Kime book "The Cat's Meow" and the pattern was called Kittleson's Cats. It was a nine inch block pattern and Linda reduced the size by 50%.

Table Mat for Lindsay

This is a table mat I made for my daughter, Lindsay, it's made from vintage fabric I had in my stash. Every once in awhile, people have given me boxes or bags of fabric because they don't sew anymore. Hey, I'll use it, especially if it's from the 70's or earlier! I love those old style prints, probably because I'm getting old myself, I'm just reminiscing.

A Fund Raiser Donation

There was a fund raiser at work for a family who has a baby with health problems, I made this Christmas table topper to donate to the cause. I used metallic thread for the quilting- what a nightmare! It kept breaking, even though I used thread conditioner and a special needle for metallic thread. Finally, I gave up and put the metallic thread in the bobbin, cotton thread on top and did the rest of the quilt upside-down. That seems to be the best way for me to use that type of thread. I have so much Christmas fabric in my stash, it needs to be used up. Every year I make gift bags with it, but that doesn't seem to put a dent in the pile. I'm not buying anymore of that type of fabric, so eventually it should dwindle down to a manageable amount.

Li'l Twister mat, Ufo #12 completed

I wanted to try the Li'l Twister ruler that I bought from Keepsake Quilting, so I made this little table mat. I used random five inch squares, alternating dark and light.

This was a small project to complete but I was meaning to get it finished a long time ago. I used Ikea fabric that my daughter, Lindsay bought for me a long time ago. I've been saving leftover batting, tiny fabric scraps and selvages, then chopping them up to make pillow stuffing. This is a good way to use up shreds that would normally be thrown away. I wanted a firm pillow to sit on when I machine quilt so I can sit up higher and can see what I'm doing. There is quite a bit more of that fabric left that I can use for more cushions.

Since we're getting snow here, I'll send a picture of a little snowman wallhanging that my sister, Linda Huntrods made. I think we both made these at the same time because I remember making a few. It was a pattern by Debbie Mumm.
