Donation Quilt

Our shortlived Steamboat Mountain Quilters' Guild made this baby quilt as a donation to the hall that we used. We didn't have very many members, so we ended the meetings after about 6 months.
Maybe we can get back together sometime if more people are interested.
The hearts are hand appliqued, the blocks were pieced and assembled by all of the members. Two of us machine quilted it.

Lindsay's Quilt

My daughter, Lindsay designed this quilt when she was 5 years old. I taped squares of fabric down to the table, then she used fabric pens to draw on them. She picked out every colour in the sashing, setting squares and middle block. She drew the heart that's in the centre, I made an applique of her drawing.
I wrote down what she wanted to say on each picture, but the last block is her signature and date.
It has an environmental theme- we shouldn't be littering, we need to save the planet from garbage.

Mystery Quilt

This was made with one of the Judy Hopkins mystery quilt patterns. It's not quilted yet, if I need it for a gift sometime, then I can get busy and finish it.
I seem to make a lot of quilts with purple and black in them, not everybody likes purple in their house because it doesn't go with their decor. Too bad, they just won't get a quilt then, lol!

I made this quilt with all the signature blocks that I received.
A few of the people in the group have passed away since then, this quilt is a very special keepsake.

This is a seven? year old UFO that I finally finished last night. I found it a little while ago in a pile of boxes when I was sorting out my stash. It only needed the binding stitched down. I guess at the time, I went on to another project and forgot about this one- yikes! Oh well, it's done now, I'll give it to our guild to put in the stockpile. We give quilts to sick kids in the community. Luckily, we haven't had to give many away over the past several years. We would rather have people be in good health! The picture is upsidedown because after I saw it on the computer, I realized the bug jar block wasn't facing the right way when I got somebody to hold the quilt up for me.

Our guild had a challenge one time where a quilt had to be made based on a saying. My sister, Linda Huntrods made this pillow as her entry. The title is "Madder Than a Setting Hen". It is made with the crazy quilt method, using fancy fabrics like velvet.

I haven't carved a pumpkin for quite a few years. I think I'm going to start doing one every year, I forgot how much fun it is. I bought the clothes for this man at the thrift shop. He is stuffed with rolled up sheets, towels, quilt batting and polyester stuffing. There is a wooden stick shoved into the neck to hold the pumpkin on. He takes up quite a bit of room, so I put him under a table. I'll be able to use the body in future years, just put a new head on each time. Maybe he should have a girlfriend for next year.....

This is one of the first quilts I ever made, it's made in the "quilt as you go" method. I didn't know about using 100% cotton at the time, this one is made from polycotton. Just about 24 years ago, I started getting interested in quilts. I went to a quilt show put on by our local guild. They had a baby quilt raffle at the show, I wanted to win that quilt really bad because I was pregnant. I bought many tickets, but didn't win the quilt. I wasn't going to do without a baby quilt for my daughter, Lindsay, so I made the one that's in the picture. The rest is history, I don't know how many quilts I've made since then, I've never counted them.

My sister, Linda Huntrods made this table mat for me quite a few years ago. I stopped using it because I moved to a different place and the sun blasts into the kitchen. I didn't want the mat to get bleached out from the strong sunlight. I should find a different location for it. I learned my lesson about sunlight on quilts. I had a quilt on the wall one time and the sun faded it terribly and ruined it. Too much work goes into a quilt to let that happen to it!

This is a WIP (work in progress), I was experimenting with the stack and slash method. It's not big enough to be a quilt, I think i'll finish it the size it is and hang it up on the wall in my bedroom, it'll coordinate with the bright quilt that's on the bed. Sometimes I just like to try different blocks and colour arrangements to see what they would look like. That's why I have so many UFO's.

It's time to start making those Christmas gifts! I've made countless table runners over the years, this one's the only one I ever kept for myself. This is a good pattern for using up odds and ends of Christmas prints. I made a smaller version of it and donated it for a door prize when I had a memebership at Curves. They let me have a free month because of the donation, I thought that was nice.

future baby quilt

This is a baby quilt top that I made a few years ago. It's made from 1930's reproduction fabrics. My quilt tops sit there and "ripen" for awhile before I get around to quilting them. I don't know of anybody who is going to have a baby, so there is no rush. It said on the news that in Canada, more people are not having children than are having them these days.
Maybe this baby quilt will end up being a lap quilt for a little old lady. That could work because I don't use baby type fabrics.

When I was up north this summer, I saw some cool masks made by First Nations people.
I thought it would be fun to try to make one, but I don't have any woodworking tools. I bought some packages of Sculpey and made this one just to try it. The Sculpey cracked in one spot when I was trying to get the crumpled foil out that I was using for a base while it was baking. I was just experimenting until I can get some tools for wood.

This quilt doesn't have a name, I made it with the Tri Recs set of rulers. They work great for making those long points on the stars. I call them the "Tri- Rectal
Tools", just to be silly. :D The fabrics in this quilt are all chicken themed, eggs and tone on tone chickens on the red and green. I made it to sell but nobody bought it, there it sits in my closet. I have given up trying to sell quilts, I'm just going to make them because I feel like it. They can pile up to the celing for all I care. The important thing is that I'm exercising my creativity. I feel like I'm wasting time if I'm not being creative. The clock is ticking, I have to remain o healthy in mind and body so I can continue making quilts until I'm 120 years old.
I've got too much fabric and too many ideas in my head to quit.

hanging up a quilt

This is a way to hang a quilt on the wall if there isn't much space. I was given this wooden hanger for a gift. Later on when I had my store, I got a carpenter to make some for me to sell. I think only one or two of them sold, then I had to give the rest of them away. I guess it was one of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" moments, which there were too many of. That's why the store went by the way of the dodo bird. I'll never go into the retail business again. If that ever crosses my path again, I'll set my hair on fire and run out the door! :D

challenge quilt

There was a challenge at a local quilt shop several years ago. We had to make a quilt using the fabrics supplied and could only use a small percentage of another fabric of our own. This was a really touch challenge because all the fabrics were of a medium tone, there was no contrast. It also had to have a theme "A Journey Through Time". The name of mine is "Waves of Coffee Through Time" I've included a picture of the label on the back.

You know that old saying, "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it".
Well, that's happened to me now. I was wishing I would have more time to sew. I switched over to a mobile internet stick at home because all I could get there was a horrible dial up connection. It turned out that the internet stick is too expensive to use, I exceeded my month's worth of usage in one day. Now I have to wait another month before I can go on it again. That means I'll have to do my blogging when I'm away working, using somebody else's computer. Now I have more time to sew at home because I can't use my computer! Funny how things work.
This is a picture of the quilt I've been working on, I showed one block a few posts ago. I don't think I'll put a border on it, just a few more rows of blocks to go.
This will make a good utility quilt, maybe for camping.

Nine Patch

I tried to post this yesterday, but the computer was in a snit and wouldn't put the picture on.
I don't think I've shown this quilt before, but if I have, please ignore.
When I had my store, the suppliers often sent three inch square samples. I kept all of them and made several quilts, also adding fabrics of my own. This quilt was a gift I made for somebody last Christmas.
I have umpteen bolts of fabric left from my store, but I keep choosing to make things with free sample squares, hehe! Waste not, want not, I suppose.

Maple Leaf

My sister, Linda Huntrods made this Maple Leaf quilt. At first, she was going to give this as a gift to ....., I won't mention any names. The quilt was a tremendous amount of work and she'd grown quite attached to it and wanted to keep it, so another quilt was made instead which was equally as nice. The quilt was given away to this person, there was no thank you, not one word was ever mentioned about it. It was like the quilt disappeared into the great abyss. I guess some people just don't appreciate the months of work, the big cost of fabric and supplies and the good thoughts that go into making a quilt. It would have been better if the woman gave the quilt back to Linda, saying "sorry, quilts aren't my thing, I don't want it"
At least in that case, it wouldn't end up in the landfill or be put in a garage sale or whatever possibly happened with it. That's my rant for the day :)

Oxymoron

We had a challenge in our guild one time to make a quilt that was based on an oxymoron. That was a fun challenge, I'd like to do it again sometime. There are endless oxymorons to use as subject matter.
This is the one my sister, Linda Huntrods made, it's called "Genuine Imitation".
It's made entirely of polyester fabrics.
I need to have a time stretcher so I can make projects of all the ideas I have in mind. Work seriously cuts into my creative time! Now I'm thinking of more oxymorons, hmmmm......

I waited for more than a month for the mobile internet stick to arrive from Virgin Mobile. It never did show up, so I got fed up and bought one from Telus instead.
Why would a large company like Virgin be so slack with their orders? They won't remain successful if that's how they treat their customers! I was so tired of the extremely slow dial up connection that I didn't want to fight with it anymore, that's why I didn't post for so long. I'm happy with the stick from Telus, but it's going to be very expensive to use, I used my limit of MB for a month in only the first day. I'll have to try to do most of my blogging when I'm working away from home. It's a pain in the butt no matter how you look at it.
Anyway, here is what I've been working on- a quilt made entirely of 2 1/2" squares, it's just about half done. I'll send pics of its progress. It's very scrappy, I started using a bagful of squares that were already cut, then I just keep cutting more to add to them.

Frustrating

Hi, I haven't posted lately because I'm still waiting for my internet connection stick to arrive, I ordered it 2 weeks ago. My dial up internet is getting so frustrating that I can't deal with it anymore. It takes an hour to post a picture or two, then sometimes it won't even work after waiting all that time. I might as well wait until I have the gadget that will make things faster. But, of course, just because I want the thing to arrive, it's taking its sweet time- grrrr!
You would think in this day and age, even people who live out in the country could get cable or ADSL internet, but no- they only consider those who live in towns or cities.
I've got lots of pictures to post and will catch up soon, I hope!

I ordered an internet stick from Virgin Mobile today, I hope it doesn't take too long to arrive. Then i'll be able to say goodbye to this horrible dial up connection- YAY!
Grrr! It won't work again today. Telus should be paying me to use their dial up connection, I shouldn't have to pay for such terrible service!

I tried to post this five times yesterday, but my computer was in a snit. Dial up sucks! I'm back from my month long vacation. I get tons of vacation time because I've worked for the same employer for THIRTY years, they add an extra day every year. It's hard to believe that I've worked at the same place for so long!
I felt like doing some "mindless sewing" today. I was inspired by the newest American Patchwork and Quilting magazine, they had an awesome quilt on the front cover. I looked at the directions and didn't feel like going to all that work because I feel lazy, so I made my own easier version. I have a huge bag of 2 1/2" squares that were leftover from other projects, so I've been using them and will probably cut more as I need them. This could end up being a quilt for camping. Or it could end up being a UFO....
After I got two blocks made, I thought of doing alternate blocks with an opposite light/dark, we'll see what happens. The last couple of days, pictures won't work on here, I'll have to send them another time.

scrap quilt

I made this quilt for a retirement gift for somebody at work. It was a pot luck supper, that's why there's a table full of food. All that food and I couldn't eat any of it, my stomach was upset that day.
There's no limit to the different designs that can be made using half square triangle units. I feel like sewing something right now, but I'm just about ready to go out the door for my vacation. I'll try to get quite a few applique blocks made, then I'll send a pic when I get back.

Lindsay's painting

I was looking through some old pictures and I ran across this pic of a painting my daughter, Lindsay did when she was in high school. It was displayed at the school near the front door. Somebody came along and liked it so much, they wanted to buy it, even though it didn't have a for sale sign on it.
Lindsay went on to go to art school, she's finished her third year and will be starting her fourth this fall.

I made this for a Christmas gift for somebody in 2009. When I had my fabric store, the suppliers often sent packages of three inch square samples. I saved them all and made several quilts. I would also add my own fabrics along with them. I had a zillion bolts of fabric to work with, but I chose to use the small sample pieces.
Waste not, want not, as the old saying goes, but all those bolts are still sitting there, they will have to get used one of these days.
I'm getting ready to go on vacation on Wednesday. Where I'm going, (to a cabin out in the sticks) there's no computer, no electricity and even my cell phone wouldn't get reception last time I was there. I'm sure other cell phones work out in the middle of nowhere, but mine was being in a snit. The only time I'll be able to get internet access is by using a library computer or the coin operated one I discovered in a laundromat. I'll finally have time to sew, but it'll have to be a hand applique project. I'm not going to drag my treadle sewing machine all the way up there, lol!

Donna Madden made the quilt top and I quilted it as a Christmas gift in 2009.
I've been non a non-spending spree since last year, so I've been trying to either make things for gifts with fabric that's from my stash, or else I'm finishing people's quilts for them. I've been working on a queen size quilt that belongs to my sister, but haven't had time to sew for months. Every time I get days off, something comes up and I can't sew. After I finish my vacation, I'm going to make time and finish the quilt.

I made this quilt with batiks and hand dyes for my daughter Lindsay for Easter 2009. She said that some of the fabric bled and stained the back of it when it was washed.
That's the hazard of using these fabrics, some of them aren't colourfast even if they're prewashed. I'm happy that it's still ok on the front side

baby quilt

I was trying to post a picture on the blog all weekend, but my computer at home was in a snit, it would do everything else, but absolutely refused to do pictures. I had to wait until I got to the place where I live when I'm working to use the computer there.
This is a baby quilt I made for a person at work, she said she wanted Mickey Mouse holding balloons. That was rather a tall order, I had to draw the design myself.
I chose to use the old Mickey Mouse with the pie shaped eyes, I don't like the one with round eyes. I made the look of transparency on one of the balloons by adding a third fabric between two of them.
The quilt was just about done when a big glorp of black oil came out of my walking foot when I was machine quilting. I couldn't get the stain out no matter how I tried, so I ended up appliqueing an extra balloon on to cover up the mark.
I know you're not supposed to copy stuff that's licensed, but I didn't sell the item, it was a gift and I only made one of them. I don't want the copywrite police to get all huffy about it.
I'll never oil a walking foot again even if it is sticking!

Happiness Is

Several years ago, Canadian Living magazine and the Canadian Quilters Association wanted all the quilting guilds in Canada to each make a quilt with the theme "Happiness Is". I made this quilt as our guild's contribution. The title is
"Happiness is: a Warm Quilt Made by Auntie Alma"
The blocks were hand pieced, I didn't know how to do curved piecing on the machine at that time. The quilt is a tribute to my Aunt Alma who made over 100 quilts in her lifetime and gave them all away. It still amazes me how she did that because she didn't have very much of an income. We all know that quilting is an expensive craft!
All these donation quilts were given to the Shriner's Hospital.

After we got home last night, we were thinking of Edna-isms and are planning a quilt to celebrate her life. Fun things like an upsidedown pepper shaker, showering pepper all over food, the a giant THRESH because that's what her sneezes sounded like.

When I had my store, there was a set of four seasons fabrics. A lot of people made window type quilts with them to showcase the scenes. My sister, Linda Huntrods made a jacket with the Winter fabric. What a great idea!

It would probably be better to go get a second or third job rsther that try to make money by selling a quilt. There is too much time and work involved in sewing and it pays next to nothing. Lesson learned.

comfort quilt

This is kind of a plain jane quilt, but I made it while I was recovering from a broken arm. I heard about a terrible tornado that happened in Texas. A friend of a friend lost her entire house that day, so I though a comfort quilt would be a good idea for that person. Having time off work gave me lots of time to sew! After I broke my arm, I would get my daughter to hold the ruler and I would rotary cut with my left hand. I was able to feed the squares through the sewing machine with one hand. The entire quilt was made one handed. I packaged it up and mailed it off, later on, i received a nice thank you email from the woman. It's fun to do a random act of quilt giving!

Trees 2

This is one of two quilts I made from tree blocks that I won in a draw at our guild.
This one was given to my good friend, Susan Getchell.
I had a stressful day yesterday, my Mom fell, broke her femur, next to where it connects to the hip and had to get sent away in an ambulance to have surgery. I hope all goes well for her! It's a good thing she had her Lifeline on and was able to call for help when it happened.

Picket Fence

The pattern for this quilt came from the book "Yes You Can Make Stunning Quilts From Simple Patterns", by Judy Martin. It's called "Picket Fence".
I gave this quilt to a person at work who retired, the other coworkers chipped in to help pay for the fabric and batting. At the time, the colour burgundy was all the raqe. It's funny how colours come and go in popularity, but I'm sure burgundy won't stay away for too many years. At least it's 1000 times better than dusty rose.

Tapestries from Japan

Years ago, I took piano lessons. I tried really hard, but never got anywhere with it, I thinbk it was mostly stubborness and not enough talent to make a go of it.
Anyway, my piano teacher had these old tapestry panels that her mother got from Japan many years ago. She never knew what to do with them, so she asked if I would put them together into a wall quilt. This is what I came up with.
I borrowed the quilt back for one of our guild quilt shows. Lynda Balas was standing there looking at it and thought the spider embellishment was cute- until it moved, lol!

This one is still a top, a UFO that has been ripening for several years.
It has curved strip piecing, an interesting technique. The edges of the centre strip are appliqued on. I'm planning on sewing a fring of pony beads onto the bottom when it's done. I also need a kick in the pants so I can get these projects completed!

table runner

This is a table runner and two chicken dolls that I was trying to sell at a craft show a long time ago. I ended up givng them away for gifts because they didn't sell.
That reminds me, I better get busy making a quilt for a Christmas gift. Usually I start in the summer and somebody will get a quilt the following Christmas. I think I've decided on the recipient for this year. Everybody gets so saturated with quilts that they're probably hoping I win the lottery so I can buy presents instead, hehe!

This was my entry for a black and white plus one colour challenge we had in our guild. The quilt also had to contain 3 different quilting techniques. Mine were hand applique, seminole piecing and machine applique. There is a 3-D chicken and cow between the people. I had to paint them with white acrylic paint because they were cream colour when I bought them at a craft shop. The back of the quilt is a fabric that has black and white cats, I'll send a pic of that another time.
The light part going across the quilt is the sun coming in through a window.

comfort quilt

This is another comfort quilt that I made for the QFT group. I wish there were more hours in a day, it's hard to come up with time to sew these days. Probably because I work in a different town, then only get to come home on my days off. When I do get home, the lawn needs to be cut, along with all sorts of other chores. Then I get tired because I've worked all week and have to catch up on my sleep. I'm not one of those Martha Stewart types that can survive on five hours of sleep per night.
If I don't get to sew or work on creative projects, I end up feeling like an empty shell because that part of my life isn't being nourished.
What I need to come up with a healthy balance so the right side of my brain doesn't wither up and die.
Winning the lottery would be a great solution because I'd never have to work again! Then there would be lots of time to feed my creativity :D

This is a picture of Elsie's quilt hung up on the wall in a bedroom. The bed covers up where the purple fabric bled into the white.
Four years of work and the quilt gets ruined when it's washed- WAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

This quilt, made for my firend Elsie, took four years to complete! I figured out the layout of the blocks myself, it's an original deisign with traditional blocks, if that makes any sense.
It is hand quilted with lots of feathered wreath type designs.
Because it was handled so much when it was being made, I needed to wash it. Much to my horror, the purple fabric bled into the white along the border even though all the fabric had been prewashed. I tried everything to get the extra dye to come out, but it only faded it a little. It's the worst along the bottom where the folded up part is. I've been leary of making quilts with a lot of white on them ever since, but this one remains the biggest quiltmaking disaster in my history.
Elsie hung the quilt on a bedroom wall, the bed is in front of the bleeding dye part of the quilt. I'll send a picture tomorrow of it on the wall.

raffle prize

This was a raffle prize we made a long time ago to raise money for our guild. One of the members made the doll and clothes, another person got her husband to make the wooden chair, I made the quilt. Since I was at liberty to make the quilt however I wanted, it just had to match the doll and clothes, I chose chicken fabric :)
Do kids even play with dolls anymore? I think adults like dolls more than kids do.

Yellow Brick Road

I made enough Yellow brick Road blocks for two baby quilts out of these fabrics. One of them was completed and given away, the other is still a top. I don't feel guilty about having at least 29 quilt tops sitting in boxes. They come in handy if I need a gift for somebody, then I can pick out out and finish it for the occasion.
That doesn't help for the ones with the fabric that has gone out of style, though, nobody would want one of those. I'll have to wait until 80's colours come back in style, lol!

challenge quilt

We had a challenge in our guild a long time ago, to make a quilt that included a tree, a mountain and a creature. I also made mine a charm quilt, with every triangle a different fabric. Many people couldn't figure out my abstract mountain scene. The tree is machine embroidered with lots of beads sewn on. The bird in the tree is hand applique.

Feathered Log Cabin

This quilt was an exercise in patience, to say the least. Each tiny half square triangle unit around the log cabin blocks measure 1 1'2" finished. Half of them had to have the dark sections facing one way, the other half facing the opposite way.
The back of the quilt is made of giant pieced log cabin blocks.

Jewel Box

This is another pattern on my "to do" list. I've got so much fabric in my stash and leftover bolts of fabric from my store that I could sew for 20 more years and not use it up. But I'm planning on sewing for the next 50 years, so there will be trips to a quilt shop eventually, hehe!

Tiny Town

My sister, Linda Huntrods made this postage stamp quilt and named it "Tiny Town". I love it!
A good example of why the smallest scraps of fabric shouldn't be thrown away.
I started to make a 16 patch and pinwheel quilt, but haven't had much time to sew lately. The 16 patches are cut from 1 1/2" squares, the pinwheels are 4 1/2".
It'll take a ton of these to make a quilt, but I love the look of all the tiny pieces.
I noticed that there is a trend in quilting magazines lately to make quilts with huge blocks. Instant gratification, I guess. I suppose it's ok if you want a project done in a hurry. There's a time and place for everything, but I prefer something that looks like a little effort was put into it.
That's my 2 cents worth for today. :)

This was made using the Quiltsmart printed interfacing panels for the applique.
I made up my own setting for the blocks. I still have other ones on bolts, the Double Wedding Ring, Rob Peter to Pay Paul, on point grid and straight grid. I'm going to have to live to be 120 years old to use all these things up!

quilt made in a class

I took a class with **** ***** one time and I made this quilt. (I don't want to get in trouble by mentioning any names). I had just come out of the hospital after hernia surgery, and wasn't feeling very well, I had to get somebody else to carry my sewing machine. I didn't want to lose the money i paid for the class, lol!
I chose one of her house and yard patterns to make. Things went well, except she hated every one of my fabric choices in my quilt and made sure she let me know. It wasn't like there was a fabric kit we had to buy, we were using our own fabrics.
Oh well, I like to make my own choices and not have a clone of somebody else's quilt.
Shame on me! :)

Christmas display

This is a Christmas display we had at one of our quilt shows. I made the plaid rocking horse quilt for a baby gift for a friend at work. The Christmas Cats quilt, I made for myself. I had a chance to sell it one time, but I went into panic mode because I really didn't want to get rid of it. I put it away so the person who was interested in it didn't see it, then she forgot about it. It was an internet Christmas cat block exchange, lots of fun to make.

1930's

This quilt is made from 1930's reproduction prints and some original fabrics from that time period. I bought a big box of fabric for $20 from somebody at work. Her grandma was moving from a house to an apartment, so she was getting rid of extra stuff. There was a lot of odds and ends in the box- old sheets, junky stuff, but also some treasures. The border on my quilt was made from an old fabric from that box. Plus there are pieces here and there in the quilt that are oldies.
I love that old fabric, the prints are really interesting.

Yellow Brick Road

This quilt was made from the Yellow Brick Road pattern. I like to change the layout around and set the blocks on point, it looks more interesting. I had to sell this quilt and another one during a winter a few years ago to be able to pay my heating bill :(
I've made several Yellow Brick Road quilts, they go together quickly and they're easy to pick out the fabrics for- 12 fat quarters.
I think the next one I make will be made from black and white fabrics.

Radiant Nine Patch

I'm back home and have access to my pictures now. I'll have to get the bugs worked out of putting pictures on a disk, then I'll be able to take them with me.
This quilt is called "Radiant Nine Patch". The pattern I followed had the light area right in the middle of the quilt. I didn't like that so much because it looked like a bottle of bleach got dumped on it. I chose to grade the fabrics from darkest in one corner to lightest in the opposite corner. That's a lot of little nine patches, it was quite a challenge to find all the fabrics for it. I added a few "punch" fabrics to add some life to it. It's mostly blue and black, but a tiny bit of red and green appears here and there. I ended up giving this quilt to my brother for his birthday. He had worn out the other quilt I made for him. No wonder- he had it on his bed for more than 20 years!

Last night before I left home, I tried to put some quilt pictures on a disk so that I could bring them to use for my work week. The place where I stay when I work isn't my home, so I don't have very much of my stuff there. Yes, it's all very confusing. My home has dial up internet, it usually take an hour to email 5 pictures to myself so that I can have access to them for my work week blog posts.
This time, I had the brainwave that I could put the pics on a disk, then bring the disk to use. It turned out that it put the same quilt on the disk over and over!
I don't know what went wrong- grrrr! By then, it was getting late and I had to leave, so I didn't have time to try again.
So that's my "dog ate my homework" story.

Sharp Curves

Our guild had a challenge one time with the theme being "oxymorons". We had to make a quilt about an oxymoron, then they were all displayed at the Art Spot, the local gallery. It was a great time!
This is my sister, Linda Huntrods entry to the challenge, it's called "Sharp Curves"
It is also an advertisement for Minolta cameras- don't ever buy one! There was no way that camera could ever take a picture without cutting off part of it. The viewfinder was faulty, my daughter had a Minolta that did the same thing, but worse. What a rip off- pay about $140 for a camera and it can't even work properly?
At least now we have digital cameras, so we don't have to worry about that anymore.

comfort quilt

This is another one of the comfort quilts our guild makes for local kids who are sick. Donna Madden made the crazy quilt blocks and somebody else finished the rest of the quilt.
I feel like i'm slowly sneaking back into the land of the living. I had some kind of flu this week that knocked me right down. Me, not being able to eat? Unheard of! Me, not being able to drink coffee? Totally absurd. Last night, I was finally able to eat some soup, even though it felt like there were people on both sides, stabbing knives into my ears. The soup agreed with me, so now I'm on the mend.
Now I have to get up enough gumption to drive back home, go and buy 2 birthday cakes, strawberries and whipped cream to take to my mom's birthday party on Friday. I might have to just throw the supplies in the general direction of the building so i don't give all of them the flu! No, i'll just keep my distance and let somebody else serve the cake and stuff. I'll quarantine myself in the far corner.

Sweat Shirt Quilt

I didn't think I had a picture of this quilt, but then I found it in a photo album.
Somebody at work wanted me to make a quilt from sweatshirts she collected over the years. I couldn't cut a square from the front of each shirt because most of them were raglan sleeved. I cut odd shaped pieces and sewed crazy quilt shapes around them on foundation squares.

This is another quilt that I sold that winter when I was fighting off poverty.
The border is Laurel Burch fabric, the quilt blocks are called "Cobblestones". I felt bad when she passed away, the world lost a great designer! Now I want to hoard the rest of my Laurel Burch fabric because there won't be any from now on.

This is a baby quilt that I sold one winter when the wolf was howling at my door.
I figured that I got about $5.00/hour. I could get a lot more than that working at Tim Horton's!
Our new quilt guild in Edgewater wanted to make a quilt to donate to the hall where we meet because they don't charge us anything for using the building. I suggested we make a baby quilt like the one I made. We gathered fabric together and I gave a demo on hand applique, then we all made blocks. The quilt still isn't done, just a but more quilting to do on it. I'll send a picture when it's completed.

Not too many more pictures left from the Quilters Gone Bad show. I posted pics of these two quilts before, but I'm posting again because they were in the art gallery show, just so everything is all in one place.
The quilts are "Lactose Intolerant" and "The Criticizer", both designed and made by me.
I had to get up before the crack of dawn to get ready for my garage sale today. I couldn't get stuff ready during the week because my stuff is in a different town than I stay when I'm working, too far to drive back and forth a lot. So I had to wait until I got home after work yesterday, then had to buy groceries, do laundry, cut the lawn (just about a 2 hour job just for that). Now I have to cut some more fabric, organize what I've got for sale, then drive for an hour back to Radium so I can have the sale that starts at 9. Nobody better come early because I won't be there! It'll be a tiring day, but I don't get many Saturdays off, usually garage sales are held on a Saturday, that's when everybody looks for them.
I'm hoping to sell lots, so I can buy one of those internet connection stick things (I don't know what they're called). Then I can dump this horrible dial up and enter the land of the living intead of being in the land of eternally slow.

Another computer glitch. This time, the keyboard at Geo's place stopped working and I couldn't post yesterday. It turned out the batteries were dead in it. I think I prefer a cord that plugs into the wall, at least it's not a battery going dead when I'm in a hurry before I'm on my way to work- grrrr!
Ok, enough complaining.
This little quilt is called "Blue House With Chicken in the Yard". How profound, hehe! Somebody bought it! Another silly quilt that somebody bought from me, but don't have a picture of was called
"Why Does It End With I?" but I drew a picture of an eye on the label instead of an "I".
It was an alphabet quilt, but I got tired of making letters from one inch squares so I sewed them together anyway and made a little quilt. Maybe I'm onto something, silly seems to sell......

These are two quilts by Donna Madden, I don't remember the names of them, I'll post the titles when Donna lets me know. I love the square head people!
I was supposed to be getting lengths of fabric cut for a garage sale I'm having next weekend. There is still a lot of fabric from my closed store that needs to thinned out. I kept getting sidetracked because of wanting to start a new quilt, so I was gathering up and cutting fabric for that. Then I was agonizing over which fabrics should be put in the sale bins. I don't want to get rid of any of it, my hoarding tendency kept rearing its ugly head. But hopefully, I've managed to part with enough. I'm also putting a box of patterns in the sale. I had to buy multiple copies of patterns from the wholesalers when I had the store, so there ended up being a lot. I kept a rather hefty pile of them for myself. I sorted through the books awhile ago, kept what I wanted and donated the rest to the Steamboat Mountain Quilters in Edgewater, one of the guilds I belong to.
I'm going to have to live to be 1000 years old to make all the projects I have in mind!

The title of this quilt is "Loud Mouth Tattletale". It isn't a very good picture because the top border is cut off. I'll take a better picture of it sometime.
I was inspired to make it when I got mad at somebody at work. Enough said. lol!
